New Nissan Qashqai e-Power launches

Capitalising on the popularity and success of the Qashqai, Nissan has announced and new electric power system on the Qashqai. The new Nissan e-Power, which is a self-charging hybrid, will improve fuel efficiency and allow the driver to experience a fully electric drive. Meaning, that if you're looking for an electric experience without having to plug in and charge, the e-Power Qashqai may be the perfect car for you.

The Qashqai e-Power is a unique hybrid offering a fully electric experience without the need to plug in and charge. Instead of the electric and internal combustion engines working together to power the wheels (as most hybrids do) the petrol engines' sole purpose is to generate power for the electric motor and charge the battery pack. This means that the electric motor exclusively drives the wheels.

This gives drivers an electric feel, complete with a quiet ride and responsive acceleration without ever having to plug in and charge up. With plenty of power, 190 PS to be exact, putting your foot down feels instant and efficient. This means you can expect to achieve an impressive 0-62 mph in 7.9 seconds.

In terms of fuel economy, the Qashqai e-Power provides a wallet-pleasing 53.3 mpg, which of course is always one of the main benefits of any hybrid.

An important feature of the Qashqai e-Power is the 'e-Pedal Step' which allows the driver to accelerate and decelerate by using just one pedal. Take your foot off the pedal and the brakes are gently deployed. This feature is perfect for city traffic during regular commutes.

Arnaud Charpentier from Nissan summarised the e-Power by saying “With Nissan’s unique e-POWER technology, we feel that customers will fall in love with the feeling of an electric powertrain, without the range concerns. It’s a powertrain which they will enjoy driving and represents an excellent option to be eco-conscious in their day-to-day life."

Ultimately, this very clever family SUV is perfect for those traversing the suburban landscape. It's ideal if you are not ready to make the switch to electric, or if you have concerns about charging infrastructure

Otherwise, the Qashqai is already available as a mild hybrid from £220 per month*
